The long-awaited time capsule opening took place July 6. Inside the time capsule were, among other things, old newspapers, an old book from the Garrettsville 120th Centennial and a song written about Garrettsville called “Old Garrettsville” that was sung by two girls, according to the James A. Garfield Historical Society, when the time capsule was buried in 1924. Two women sang the song at the time capsule opening.
Playhouse Square presents Cinema at the Square schedule
After taking a year off, Playhouse Square’s Cinema at the Square is back. The beloved film series makes its return this summer screening films at the Connor Palace, which boasts the largest non-IMAX screen in Ohio. The original 35 mm reel-to-reel projection system is operated by a skilled projectionist.
Aging adults welcomed at YMCA
CLEVELAND, Ohio – Helping keep senior citizens sprightly and engaged is the goal of programs at the YMCA of Greater Cleveland. Executive director of health initiatives Linda McVey said the YMCA of Greater Cleveland is committed to having a positive impact on aging adults through its network of branches and extensive programing.

When Huntington Bank announced last fall it planned to close its Buckeye Road branch, local residents and activists rallied around the shuttering as unnecessary and yet another blow to a community trying to make a comeback. Their efforts – and Huntington’s willingness to hear them out – produced at least a temporary reversal. In January, Huntington withdrew an application with bank regulators to permanently close the branch. In return, Huntington asked that city leaders and residents help come up with a plan to help reduce crime in the area. The bank, the residents and the city continue to meet regularly on the topic.

A day later, full-time faculty members must indicate if they, too, want to take the voluntary buyout. It’s all unfolding just before the fall semester begins Aug. 26.
Wind and STEM lessons fill student sails on Lake Erie
Waves lapped against the dock as Carter Florence pushed a little sailboat into the water. Before long, he was out on Lake Erie, maneuvering the boat’s jib to catch wind gusts with his fellow classmates Nathan Dodge and Emmet Barley. They’re all students in a sailing summer camp hosted by the Foundry, a Cleveland-based organization that introduces youth to sailing and rowing.
