First Alert: Saturday’s heat may help fuel Sunday storms
WEATHER STORY: As the Maritime Tropical air mass of the Gulf of Mexico migrates into our region, a southerly wind will set up and those two factors will turn up the heat this week. Normal high is 78. Saturday will be close to 90. We will be warmer than normal for at least seven days. Most of the days will be sunny which helps keep temps up but that heat will also create lift through convection. So, thunderstorms will be possible, too, especially Sunday, Monday and next Thursday. There now appears to be a chance some could become severe.
July 27th: Hot, humid, and hazy
High pressure will continue to dominate the middle third of the country over the next several days. Extremely hot weather is expected all weekend long. Hot temperatures in the 80s to near 90 expected through the weekend with strong southerly winds with gusts of 20 to 25 mph. This wind will bring in plenty of moisture making for extremely humid conditions as dew points climb into the 70s. The combination of heat and humidity could see heat indices climb to 100°F, this includes Duluth. The Northland beaches and water ways will likely be full this weekend with people trying to beat the heat.
