TWO RIVERS – If you’re like me, thoughts of snowmen and mittens might not be top of mind this time of year.

Not so for the city of Two Rivers, which will host its annual Snowfest July 26-28 with plenty of music, food and family activities.

The event dates back to 1936.

The United States was caught in a record-breaking heat wave that summer. Construction workers at a new park in Two Rivers were digging into a pile of dirt and discovered buried snow. The Associated Press heard about it and the story went viral. That led to Two Rivers being nicknamed the “Coolest Spot in Wisconsin.”

The first Snowfest was held in 1937 and the tradition continued until the 1990s when it faded away. The Friends of Two Rivers Snowfest brought the celebration back in 2018 after a 21-year hiatus, and here we are today.

This year’s event includes music, kids’ performers, a craft fair and inflatables such as the snow-capped bounce-n-slide and a (Disney’s) Frozen bounce house.

Both kids and adults can show off their moves in a dance party dome inflatable or on a 70-foot obstacle course.

There’s also a dunk tan where folks can try their hand at soaking a local celebrity, as well as a cornhole tournament, snowball fight competition and a “crazy clothes” game. There will also be ax-throwing, plinko, kick darts and free Bingo.

A parade is set for 11 a.m. Saturday, which might just include some snow!

The entertainment lineup includes Jim Gaff and the Coyote Posse, as well as Nashville Pipeline on Friday.

Saturday’s performers will be: Jammin with JD, Arcade Change, Bacchus Lotus, Mt. Olive and the Nix.

Sunday’s lineup includes Riley Haupt, Ta Dah-Music of Tanya and Dave and Gone 2 Paradise (The Ultimate Jimmy Buffet Tribute.)
