There will always be a need for pilots in every kind of plane. You can reduce it down to just 1 or 2 where it may have taken more with AI. You can even have unmanned aircraft but they should be in a squadron working with a plane that is piloted. Gen 6 will be all about incorporating AI and man together in a way that makes them 1

Seems a combination of problems arose, not least of which is sudden scarcity of critical resources combined with new ways of implementing AI, which render existing proposals already obsolete.
