SFFR, Animal Control team up to rescue pig from Big Sioux River
SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO.com) — Sioux Falls’ latest social media star is an orphan rescued from the Big Sioux River. Fire and Rescue teamed up with Animal Control to rescue – a young pig – from a sand bar. No one is sure where the little critter came from or how he got there. Sioux Falls woman charged for involvement in Jan. 6 Capitol riot
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - A Sioux Falls business owner has been charged for participating in the January 6th riot at the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C. According to court documents, a South Dakota resident tipped off the FBI after overhearing Amy Rebekah Willis of Sioux Falls bragging about being inside the U.S. Capitol building on January 6th, 2021. The conversation took place inside Willis’s herbalist retail sales company in Sioux Falls, which she has owned since 2011.
LEPC pledges funds for law enforcement training tool
The Local Emergency Planning Committee approved a maximum contribution of $4,000 to help law enforcement purchase a breaching door. The committee unanimously approved covering 50%, with a cap of $4,000, to fund the purchase. The Madison Police Department and Lake County Sheriff's Office would fund another quarter of the purchase each, according to Madison Police Department Officer Heath Abraham.
Bishop, Central Minnesota Residents Join Thousands at 10th National Eucharistic Congress in Indianapolis
(KNSI) – Dozens of central Minnesota residents made the pilgrimage to Indianapolis for the 10th annual National Eucharistic Congress. The event began in May when over 10,000 people started walking to the city carrying the Eucharist. On the way, the march stopped at St. Mary’s Cathedral in St. Cloud. The congress is the first gathering of its kind in 83 years. Bishop Patrick Neary of the Diocese of St. Cloud called the event historic. “I mean, how many American Catholics have been to one of these national celebrations? And so we are so blessed, but you guys really are the base of Christ. You are his disciples as missionaries. With the joy you have, the example of your family lives, your faith and your commitment.”

Fire department project receives more anonymous assistance
A second fire department has received an anonymous $15,000 donation to help pay down a loan for new radios. Fire Chief Terry Reck of the Wentworth Fire Department spoke on the donation during the Local Emergency Planning Committee's July 17 meeting.

(Cleburne, TX) — The Sioux Falls Canaries hope to snap a three-game losing streak tonight when they open a weekend series in Sioux City. The Birds were swept in their three-game series at Cleburne, losing the finale 8-0 yesterday. The Railroaders pounded Sioux Falls pitching in the series, outscoring the Canaries 25-3. After delays, the City of Madison is nearing the end of its 2022 audit
The city of Madison 2022 financial audit is nearing completion. The audit was delayed due to the implementation of new software from Tyler Technologies and staff turnover. Due to the delay, the Department of Legislative Audit may issue a notice of non-compliance. Municipalities in South Dakota are required to complete financial audits within 18 months of the end of the year. While the City of Madison did not make this deadline on June 30, 2024, all information has been provided to the auditor who is expected to complete the audit report shortly. The City of Madison says they have been actively engaged and cooperative with the Department of Legislative Audit throughout this process.
