East Texas Food Bank to host free day of summer fun for children

TYLER, Texas ( KETK ) – The East Texas Food Bank (ETFB) is holding their Summer Feeding Program Fun Day for children on Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Glass Recreation Center in Tyler.

According to the ETFB, the day will offer free activities and a free meal for children. ETFB said that there will be games, face painting, a petting zoo, free Kona Ice and the Tyler Fire and Police Departments will be there.

“It’s so important to make sure children do not go hungry in the summer just because school is out,” David Emerson, CEO of the East Texas Food Bank, said. “Here in East Texas, one in four children are food insecure, so it’s up to our community to make sure we fill that meal gap when the school year ends and kids lose access to free and reduced-price meals they depend on.”

The ETFB said that during the course of the summer, they will serve 64,000 meals to over 3,000 children at 45 different locations in East Texas.

The food bank provides meals at community sites Monday through Friday across East Texas, the program is for children 18 and younger and requires no registration. Locations and serving times for the program can be found on their website , or by calling 903-597-3663.
