    UT Tyler College of Pharmacy awarded for men’s mental health training

    TYLER, Texas ( KETK ) – The UT Tyler Ben and Maytee Fisch College of Pharmacy has received a national award for their efforts to train new pharmacists to do men’s mental health screenings.

    The 2024 Innovation Award from the National Association of Chain Drug Stores Foundation (NACDS) was only given to six schools or colleges of pharmacy in the country.

    “We are deeply honored to receive the NACDS Foundation Innovation Award,” Dr. Amy Schwartz, Fisch College of Pharmacy dean said. “We are excited for how the award will support our efforts to advance pharmacy education, promote student engagement with the community and address some of the mental health challenges in East Texas.”

    A UT Tyler press release said that the NACDS award would help support the college’s initiative to train pharmacy interns to be able to provide mental health screenings for men. The goal of their initiative is to help shrink disparities in mental health for East Texas.

    “The NACDS Foundation is very pleased to give this Innovation Award to The University of Texas at Tyler Ben and Maytee Fisch College of Pharmacy,” Dr. Sara E. Roszak, NACDS Foundation president said. “The community will greatly benefit from the mental health screenings that it supports.”
