TYLER, Texas ( KETK ) – The Tyler City Council approved two project contracts that equal about $3,196,931 for improvements to the city’s wastewater system on Wednesday.

According to a release, the projects will reduce maintenance and operation costs for Tyler Water Utilities (TWU) Bellwood Lift Station and the Shackleford Creek Lift Station.

TWU is reportedly eliminating the Bellwood Lift Station, that serves 3,310 acres, including the Cascades, TJC West campus and car dealerships since it is near its maximum capacity. The Bellwood Lift Station, that pumps sewer around Lake Bellwood that then flows by gravity to the Greenbriar Lift Station, would be replaced with a 30-inch gravity main, a release said.

“The Council approved a $1,804,750 contract with KSA Engineers, Inc. for preliminary and final design, permitting and easement acquisition, and construction phase services for this project,” the City of Tyler said.

By eliminating the lift station, TWU would also be eliminating the responsibility of overseeing it and save the city maintenance and operation costs, a release said. The gravity main project’s construction and design phase will reportedly take more than two years.
