    Caldwell Zoo cheetahs arrive safely at Australian zoo

    TYLER, Texas ( KETK ) — The Caldwell Zoo announced on Wednesday that two young male cheetahs have landed at an Australian zoo.

    Zoo officials said thanks to their ongoing efforts to conserve the endangered species, cheetahs Ichabod and Lee have successfully flown to Taronga Western Plains Zoo in Australia.

    “This monumental event marks a critical step in the global effort to preserve cheetahs, one of the world’s most endangered big cats,” the Caldwell Zoo said.

    The cheetahs were reportedly born during the COVID-19 pandemic to Mary Jo and Satan. Caldwell Zoo said the cubs are a result of their dedicated breeding program that ensures the long term survival of the species.

    The Caldwell Zoo remains dedicated to its mission of helping endangered species through breeding programs, education and partnerships with conservation organizations. The zoo is also a member of the Breeding Centers Coalition which helps maintain healthy genetic diversity of breeding animals.

    “The birth of these cubs was a beacon of hope during a challenging time, and their transfer to Taronga Western Plains Zoo represents a significant accomplishment for the Caldwell Zoo and its conservation partners,” Caldwell Zoo officials said.
