TYLER, Texas ( KETK ) – In this From the Archives report from 2013, we take a look back at the traditional Fourth of July food and the division on what condiments to use.

From The Archives: 2004 Tyler tourism summit

National Hot Dog Month falls in July and the best day to enjoy the American tradition is Independence Day itself.

KETK’s Garret Sanders spoke to several people with strong beliefs on what should and shouldn’t go on a hot dog.

“You wouldn’t put icing on a hamburger and you wouldn’t put ketchup on a hot dog it’s too sweet, the taste combination just doesn’t work, it’s what you do for little kids,” former KETK sports reporter Phil Kuchinksky said.

Other people argue mustard is the superior condiment on hot dogs, whereas others believe the divisive argument has gone too far.

There is no arguing that hot dogs are considered American holiday staples, but what to put on it can definitely create some discourse.
