    New councilmember sworn in for Tyler District 2

    TYLER, Texas ( KETK ) – Petra Hawkins was sworn in as Tyler’s newly-elected councilmember on Wednesday.

    Hawkins won a runoff election to represent District 2, which is in the west Tyler area, with 53% of the vote in June.

    Born and raised in Tyler, Hawkins graduated from Tyler ISD and Tyler Junior College before pursuing a career in nursing first as an LVN, then as an RN. She became a Professional Texas Real Estate Agent in 2022.

    Polk, Trinity among counties affected in mass boil water notice

    While running for office, Hawkins embraced the mantra “ new voice, new vision ” and said she would work to improve the quality of living for District 2 residents and all of Tyler.

    Hawkins is a member of the Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce, Tyler Metro Chamber of Commerce, Tyler Area Builder’s Association and the National Association of Real Estate Brokers. In addition, she is enrolled in Tyler ISD’s Community Education Specialist Training.
