TYLER, Texas ( KETK ) – The Tiger Creek Animal Sanctuary in Tyler has announced their first public group educational tours since the COVID-19 pandemic and an animal cruelty lawsuit settlement.

Tiger Creek agrees to become compliant with standards or lose endangered animals in lawsuit settlement

The animal sanctuary’s tours will start back up on July, 22 and they’ll then have tours every week on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. The group tours will cost $25 for 10 people’s admission and $16 for each additional person.

“Join our dedicated animal care staff on a walking tour to meet the residents that call Tiger Creek home. After check-in your tour will begin at our Conservation Station where you can learn about some of the most threatened endangered species, the biggest threats to their survival, and how you can help. Afterwards your guide will walk you through the grounds to see our residents, learn about their history, and share stories of their day-to-day care requirements. At the end of your tour drop by our visitors center to meet our animal ambassadors.”

The tours come after the sanctuary came to a settlement in an Endangered Species Act lawsuit with the Animal Legal Defense Fund (ALDF) back in February. Among many allegations of improper animal care, the lawsuit also revealed that Bengali, then the world’s oldest tiger, had been dead for months before his death was made public .

The settlement reached requires that the sanctuary become full compliant with the Association of Zoos and Aquarium’s standards with in two years or their endangered animals, like tigers, will be sent to other facilities of the ALDF’s choosing. Tiger Creek claimed at the time of the settlement that the lawsuit’s allegations against them were baseless.

The sanctuary said they don’t allow any petting of their big cats like lions or tigers, that tours are limited to groups of 30 and that there are no refunds for tours.
