TYLER, Texas ( KETK ) — President Joe Biden announced on social media on Sunday that he will not be accepting his presidential nomination. KETK spoke with voters in Tyler on Monday afternoon to hear what they think about his decision.

“I think they did the American people a favor by dropping down,” Debbie Attaway, a Pickton Resident, said.

Some East Texans were not surprised at Biden’s choice to not move forward as the Democratic presidential nominee.

“I’m glad that Biden stepped down because I don’t feel like he wasn’t capable of running our country. I mean I feel like that’s been evident, last year it’s really been bad,” Donna Francis, Bullard Resident, said.

East Texans are mostly concerned about his well-being and health.

“He was definitely too old. I am hoping, that he can live out the rest of his days comfortably” Reagan Burnett, an East Texan, said.

“The man needs to go and relax and enjoy his last few years you know I think it’s kind of cruel staying in as long as he did,” Francis said.

In his announcement, President Biden endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris to be the next democratic nominee. But voters know it’s not a done deal yet.

“It depends on who is going up against him you know Michelle Obama will probably be a big ticket, I really don’t see the American people voting for Kamala Harris,” Francis said.

No matter who ends up at the top of the ticket the final decision will be made in a few months at the ballot box.

“This is people’s livelihood that we’re talking about. Not a Republican or a Democrat we’re talking about people’s lives in my opinion,” Attaway said.

The Democratic National Convention will happen next month in Chicago, election day is set for November 5 this year.
