East Texas school districts hiring for key positions ahead of classes

TYLER, Texas ( KETK ) – Many East Texas school districts are looking to hire for several key positions with less than two weeks before some children are back in class.

Many school districts are in urgent need of teachers, paraprofessionals and auxiliary positions.

“We all recognize that there is a teacher shortage across the state of Texas and nationally,” said Kilgore ISD executive director of administrative services, April Cox. “We understand that we are going look at things differently than maybe how we approached recruitment efforts years ago.”

Several districts are all looking to fill spots especially positions such as food service wokers.

“We also are looking for bus drivers and grounds keepers as well,” said Chapel Hill ISD HR coordinator, Charlotte May.

To fill this need, Chapel Hill ISD is hosting a job fair specifically to fill these openings.

“This job fair is specifically for para’s and auxiliary staff,” said May. “So, we hope having this job fair will bring a lot of people in that are looking for a position to be in the school district, people that want to be part of a family, that want to be part of an organization that’s very caring.”

The job fair will happen next Tuesday July 30 from 9am to 10:30am at the Chapel Hill ISD administration building.

Kilgore ISD is participating in a program called Teachworthy , which is a program that allows schools to hire college students before graduation.

“They will oversee a classroom,” said Cox. “They will have those same mentoring opportunities as a new teacher would.”
