TYLER, Texas ( KETK ) – A teenage archer from East Texas has been dominating local and statewide competitions with even loftier goals in mind.

15-year-old Ellie Farquhar trains at Griffin Archery, an indoor/outdoor range in Tyler. With a year and a half of training under her belt, Farquhar said she’s learned a lot.

“It’s been really great, it’s taught me so much. Not just about archery, but about myself and life,” Farquhar said.

Griffin Archery owner Michelle Griffin describes Farquhar’s work ethic as “eating, breathing, loving archery,” saying she is constantly practicing to get better.

“I like it because I’m a perfectionist, so I want to be perfect over and over and over again,” Farquhar said. “Being an archer and being consistent is about having that perfection over and over and over again every single time. You’re trying to simulate that exact same shot.”

Now a heavily decorated athlete, Farquhar said her journey was inspired by a certain purple-clad superhero.

“I watched a TV show about Hawkeye, he was an Avenger, and he shoots a bow and arrow, and I watched it and was like, well, he’s really cool, so I want to shoot a bow and arrow too,” Farquhar said.

Farquhar has taken her talents to new heights, winning championship after championship and proving her expertise.

“She has won the JOAD National shoot recently, she’s won the Texas Outdoor Championship, the Louisiana Outdoor Championship, the TFAA championship,” Griffin said. “So she is just on her world domination, as I say, for archery.”

As Farquhar continues to grow in her archery career, she has big goals.

“I want to become a pro one day and get sponsors and everything,” Farquhar said. “I also want to go to A&M and they have an archery team, so I wanted to join that too.”

Farquhar said archery is the best sport in the world, and plans to continue shooting for greatness.

“She wants college and potentially on to the Olympics with this,” Griffin said. “So we’re doing all we can to help her.”
