BAY COUNTY, Fla. ( WMBB ) – One of the key facilities for air operations at Tyndall is progressing.

The 325th Operations Support Squadron building was destroyed during Hurricane Michael in 2018. Crews began rebuilding the 33,000 sq. ft. facility in 2022.

The facility houses airfield operations, radar approach control systems, and weather forecasting and is key to maintaining mission readiness.

“This building behind me was a fire station when we did the change of command in the same hangar 2 years ago it was being demolished, wrecking ball, now going to the same event. And now we’re almost done with the OSS building that’s going on behind us. It’s going to be a next-generation building,” 325th Fighter Wing Former Commander Col. George Watkins said.

The new OSS facility cost $28 million. Similar to all of the new construction at Tyndall, it will be able to withstand category five hurricane force winds.

The expected completion date is early 2025.
