With a $2 million federal grant, the VCU-led initiative will support Chesterfield County Jail and community re-entry programs, as well as create student internships. The federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration has awarded a five-year, $2 million grant to a Virginia Commonwealth University-led project that will provide a range of services, including drug treatment, employment, housing, case management and peer support, for people with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental illnesses who are involved in the criminal justice system.

Liberty University acquires Virginia Technical Institute, expands trade school training
LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) — Liberty University announced Thursday it has acquired the educational components of Virginia Technical Institute (VTI) in Altavista. Through more than a decade of collaboration, Liberty’s Technical Studies Program students can take courses at VTI in welding, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC, and more while also earning their degrees. Students use the courses for credit as electives or minors as they gain other credentials and licenses that can lead to more career options following graduation.
