Tyrone Borough upgrades Reservoir Park roller hockey rink

BLAIR COUNTY (WTAJ) – The Tyrone Borough has made many upgrades to Reservoir Park over the years such as new restrooms, a restored bridge, and most recently, a new surface to the roller hockey rink.

The new updates makes it a dual sports facility for both hockey and pickleball.

The new surface features regulation lines for both sports as well as a grey area marking the kitchen, the non-volley zone on the court, in pickleball. The borough sees this as a business opportunity for the community, as the Tyrone Pickleball Club is set to host a tournament on the new surface in August.

“I’m sure it is going to bring in a bunch of folks from outside the area as well, and that’s always great for our local businesses and our local economy to be able to have an influx of people coming in,” Borough Manager Ardean Latchford said.

The Tyrone Pickleball Club has been a growing club in the community and Latchford said he loves to see how much the sport has grown.

“The pickleball folks approached us about, you know, we’re looking for an area to be able to play pickleball. They came here and looked at this surface and they said it would be ideal for what they want to do,” Latchford said, “So it’s taken off from there and it’s really growing and I look forward to seeing what happens in the future here for Reservoir Park.” Latchford said.

The Tyrone Pickleball Club is hosting a tournament on their new surface on Saturday, August 3. There are already over 40 teams signed up.
