PHOENIX - According to the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT), significant improvements will begin on the Loop 303 interchange with Grand Avenue (US 60) in Surprise on Monday, July 29.

This plan aims to enhance traffic flow and increase capacity at a critical intersection.

As part of the project, ADOT crews will extend a second lane along the northbound Loop 303 off-ramp at Grand Avenue. This expansion is designed to accommodate a greater volume of vehicles exiting the freeway, according to ADOT.

The enhancements will include two left-turn lanes onto westbound Grand Avenue, a lane for turns in either direction, and a dedicated right-turn lane for drivers heading east on US 60.

ADOT has scheduled a closure of the northbound Loop 303 off-ramp at Grand Avenue from 10 p.m. Monday until 4 a.m. Tuesday, July 30. During this closure, crews will set up temporary barrier walls to establish the work zone.

Drivers are advised to use the eastbound Bell Road exit from northbound Loop 303 and then proceed north on Reems Road to reach Grand Avenue. This detour is necessary to ensure safety and facilitate the initial phase of the construction.

Following this overnight closure, ADOT indicates that drivers should anticipate ongoing work zone restrictions along the northbound off-ramp to Grand Avenue. These restrictions will be in effect for several months as crews complete the necessary upgrades.

In addition to the improvements on the off-ramp, ADOT’s $4.6 million project will also include the addition of a third eastbound lane on US 60 near 163rd Avenue.

Moreover, a third left-turn lane will be added for southbound 163rd Avenue traffic turning onto eastbound US 60. The project is expected to be completed by spring 2025, according to ADOT.
