PHOENIX – In National League West action, the Arizona Diamondbacks (67-53) and Colorado Rockies (44-76) faced off in the first game of their three-game series Monday at Chase Field.

Two wild pitches by Tyler Kinley in the seventh inning allowed Corbin Carroll and Kevin Newman to score, respectively, giving the Diamondbacks a 5-4 lead.

Arizona held on to win, marking their 22nd victory in their last 28 games.

D-backs starter Brandon Pfaadt (7-6, 3.98 ERA) pitched 7.0 innings, allowing four runs on eight hits while striking out 11 over 94 pitches, securing his seventh win of the season.

Pfaadt’s pitch selection included 29 sweepers (31%), 25 four-seam fastballs (27%), 21 sinkers (22%), 14 changeups (15%), and five curveballs (5%). His diverse repertoire kept Rockies hitters off balance throughout the game.

    Game Recap:

In the bottom of the first inning, Ketel Marte fell to the ground while taking a swing but remained in the game, hobbling down to first base on a flyout.

Newman replaced Marte in the top of the second inning as Marte appeared to be affected by a bruised left ankle he suffered Saturday night.

The D-backs took a 1-0 lead in the second inning after back-to-back doubles by Josh Bell and Jake McCarthy.

In the third inning, Colorado responded when Jake Cave doubled, and Elias Díaz's RBI single tied the score at 1-1.

In the fourth inning, Brenton Doyle singled, and Brendan Rodgers's sacrifice fly gave the Rockies a 2-1 lead. Michael Toglia and Cave each singled, followed by Díaz's RBI single, extending the lead to 3-1.

In the top of the sixth, Brendan Rodgers hammered a 93.2 mph four-seam fastball from Pfaadt for a solo home run, giving the Rockies a 4-1 lead.

In the bottom of the sixth, the D-backs responded when Newman singled, Bell hit a two-out RBI double, and McCarthy’s RBI single cut Colorado's lead to 4-3.

In the bottom of the seventh, Corbin Carroll scored on a wild pitch. A second wild pitch by Kinley then brought Newman home, giving the Diamondbacks a 5-4 lead.

Ryan Thompson pitched the eighth inning, allowing no runs, no hits, and no walks while throwing just five pitches.

Justin Martinez pitched the ninth inning, allowing one hit but no runs, no walks, and no strikeouts over 13 pitches to earn the save.

NEXT STARTER: Eduardo Rodriguez (1-0, 4.76 ERA)

Rodriguez won his season debut on Aug. 7 against the Guardians in Game 2 of a doubleheader, allowing three runs on four hits and two walks over 5.2 innings.

He will make his Chase Field debut after beginning the year on the injured list with a strained left shoulder.
