PHOENIX – The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) is alerting motorists to prepare for delays and detours as southbound State Route 143 will be closed between Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) and Interstate 10 from 10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23, to 4 a.m. Monday, Aug. 26.

The closure is necessary for a traffic shift as part of ongoing construction in the area. During the same period, the ramps from Loop 202 to southbound SR 143 will also be closed, according to ADOT.

    Additional Closures:

    • The southbound SR 143 on-ramps at McDowell Road, Washington Street, Sky Harbor Boulevard, and University Drive.
    • The westbound Loop 202 off-ramp at Sky Harbor Boulevard.

    Detours:

    • Westbound Loop 202: Use westbound Loop 202 to eastbound I-10 to reach destinations south of the closure.
    • Eastbound Loop 202: Use eastbound Loop 202 to southbound Loop 101 (Price Freeway) to westbound US 60 for destinations south of the closure.
    • Airport Access: Use northbound SR 143 or southbound 44th Street from Loop 202.

    Upcoming Changes:

    • Southbound SR 143 Flyover Ramp: When southbound SR 143 reopens, drivers will encounter a new lane configuration, including the opening of the southbound SR 143 flyover ramp to eastbound I-10.
    • 48th Street Closure: Southbound 48th Street between I-10 and Broadway Road will be closed beginning Aug. 23, with the closure expected to last into September. Drivers needing to access southbound 48th Street should use westbound I-10 to southbound 40th Street, then eastbound Broadway Road.

ADOT advises drivers to plan for additional travel time and consider alternative routes to avoid delays.
