    Avondale Set to Celebrate Hispanic Heritage with "Tu Herencia"

    AVONDALE – The City of Avondale’s Sam Garcia Library will host a series of events in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, culminating in the "Tu Herencia" festivity on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2024, according to the City of Avondale.

    "Tu Herencia" is a cultural celebration event held in various locations, such as libraries, to honor Hispanic Heritage Month.

    The festivities begin Tuesday, Sept. 24, at 4 p.m. with a Papel Picado workshop, where individuals can create colorful paper banners, a hallmark of Hispanic celebrations.

    On Wednesday, Sept. 25, at 2 p.m., participants can make their own Balero Cup-and-Ball Game, a traditional Mexican toy that tests hand-eye coordination.

    Storytime with Ballet Folklorico Esperanza will be held Thursday, Sept. 26, at 11 a.m. Families can enjoy interactive storytelling paired with vibrant dance performances.

    The main event, Tu Herencia, will take place Saturday, Sept. 28, from 1 to 3 p.m., with the library opening at 12:30 p.m.

    The celebration will highlight Hispanic culture with a lively afternoon of crafts, performances, and activities for all ages.

    From 1 to 2 p.m., Mariachi Rubor, an all-female mariachi band, will perform a blend of traditional and contemporary mariachi music.

    At 2 p.m., Sardinha Brazilian Jiu Jitsu will showcase a live demonstration of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu techniques.

    The event will conclude with Musical Bingo from 2:30 to 3 p.m., where participants can compete for prizes by testing their musical knowledge.

    Throughout the event, attendees can take part in traditional craft-making, offering a hands-on connection to Hispanic heritage.

    All events will be held at Sam Garcia Library, 495 E. Western Ave., Avondale, AZ 85323. The celebration is free and open to the public
