Arizona Avenue Closed at Loop 202 Sept. 27-30 for Bridge Work

PHOENIX – The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) announced today that Arizona Avenue (State Route 87) will be closed at Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) from 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27, until 5 a.m. Monday, Sept. 30, as part of the ongoing Loop 202 widening project between Loop 101 and Val Vista Drive.

The closure is necessary for bridge work in the area, according to ADOT.

While the Arizona Avenue ramps to and from Loop 202 will remain open during this time, motorists should plan ahead for detours. ADOT recommends the following alternate routes:

• Northbound Detour: Drivers heading north on Arizona Avenue can take eastbound Germann Road to northbound McQueen Road and then westbound Pecos Road, or head west on Germann Road to northbound Alma School Road and eastbound Pecos Road to reconnect with Arizona Avenue.
• Southbound Detour: Drivers traveling south can take eastbound Pecos Road to southbound McQueen Road and westbound Germann Road, or opt for westbound Pecos Road to southbound Alma School Road and eastbound Germann Road to access Arizona Avenue.

Additionally, eastbound Loop 202 will be narrowed to two lanes between Cooper and Gilbert roads from 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27, to 2 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 28.

The eastbound Loop 202 off-ramp at Gilbert Road will also be closed.

Additional Lane Restrictions (Sept. 23-28)

In the days leading up to the closure, drivers should be aware of nightly restrictions on Loop 202:

• Westbound Loop 202 will be reduced to two lanes between Dobson and Price roads from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly, from Monday, Sept. 23, through Wednesday, Sept. 25.
• Eastbound Loop 202 will be reduced to two lanes between Alma School and McQueen roads from 9 p.m. Monday, Sept. 23, to 5 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24. The eastbound Loop 202 on-ramp at Arizona Avenue will also be closed.
• Eastbound Loop 202 will be narrowed between Arizona Avenue and Cooper Road from 9 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, to 5 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25.
• Additional lane reductions will occur between McQueen and Gilbert roads from 11 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25, through 5 a.m. Friday, Sept. 27.

Upcoming Closures and Restrictions (Sept. 29 - Oct. 5)

• Northbound Arizona Avenue will face nightly closures from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. from Monday, Sept. 30, to Wednesday, Oct. 2.
• Southbound Arizona Avenue will be closed nightly at Loop 202 from Thursday, Oct. 3, through Saturday, Oct. 5.
• Lindsay Road will be closed at Loop 202 from 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4, until 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 7, for bridge work. The Lindsay Road ramps will remain open.
