Tempe and Guadalupe residents can now recycle Styrofoam packaging at the Household Products Collection Center (HPCC) at 1320 E. University Drive, according to the City of Tempe.

The facility accepts Styrofoam blocks, chunks, and coolers from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.

Items must be firm and break into white pellets when torn to be recyclable. Plates, cups, trays, peanuts, or spongy foam are not accepted.

City officials advise residents not to place Styrofoam in blue recycling bins, as it can contaminate other recyclables.

"When dropping off items at the HPCC, please avoid mixing different products together," said Tim Miller, City of Tempe Environmental Hazardous Materials Supervisor.

In addition to Styrofoam, the HPCC accepts items like automotive products, electronics, household cleaners, paints, solvents, and pesticides.

For a full list of accepted items, visit tempe.gov/HPCC.

    Zero Waste Day

Tempe holds Zero Waste Day, a free, drive-thru event offering expanded disposal options for residents. The next event is on Saturday, Nov. 2, with details available at tempe.gov/ZeroWaste.

The HPCC also offers a SWAP program, where residents can pick up free supplies like paint, cleaning products, and fertilizers. Up to 30 items or 30 gallons of supplies are allowed per month, according to the city.

Proof of Tempe or Guadalupe residency, such as an ID or utility bill, is required. For more information on the City of Tempe recycling programs, go to tempe.gov/recycling.
