Chevon Grant, 27, of Hartford, pleaded guilty today to a federal firearm charge related to a gang-related shootout, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Connecticut.

Court documents and statements made during the proceedings reveal that on April 18, 2022, a shooter—believed to be a member of a rival gang—opened fire on individuals gathered in a parking lot outside a memorial service at a party venue on Main Street in Hartford.

Surveillance footage captured at least nine individuals brandishing firearms, some of whom returned fire.

The incident triggered gunshot detection system technology, which recorded approximately 50 gunshots within 90 seconds, and law enforcement recovered at least 31 shell casings from the scene.

Grant, who was present at the memorial, was caught on surveillance footage brandishing a handgun during the shootout.

Following the incident, Hartford Police obtained a warrant for his arrest in connection with the April 18 shootout. At the time of the warrant, Grant was already wanted for two separate state charges related to other alleged offenses, the department states.

On May 7, 2022, officers arrested Grant after finding him in the driver’s seat of a parked vehicle. A loaded Ruger P90 .45-caliber handgun was discovered beneath the driver’s seat, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Grant has prior state felony convictions for robbery and larceny, which make it illegal under federal law for him to possess a firearm.

Grant is scheduled for sentencing on January 9, 2025, where he faces up to 10 years in federal prison. He is currently detained in state custody, awaiting further legal proceedings, according to the department.
