The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) announced Wednesday that lane restrictions and ramp closures will affect both northbound and southbound Interstate 17 in North Phoenix from Oct. 18-21, as part of the ongoing I-17 Happy Valley Road to SR 74 Pavement Project.

Starting Friday, Oct. 18, southbound I-17 will be reduced to one lane between SR 74/Carefree Highway and Loop 303/Sonoran Desert Drive each night from 9 p.m. to 9 a.m. on Friday and Saturday, and from 9 p.m. Sunday until 5 a.m. Monday.

In addition, ADOT says, the southbound on- and off-ramps at SR 74/Carefree Highway will be closed Friday and Saturday nights.

The southbound off-ramps at Dove Valley Road and Loop 303 will also be closed during the same times, with the southbound on- and off-ramps at Loop 303 closed Sunday night.

Northbound I-17 will be narrowed to one lane between Happy Valley Road and Loop 303 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Friday and Saturday, as well as from 9 p.m. Sunday until 5 a.m. Monday.

In addition to weekend restrictions, weeknight lane closures are scheduled for Oct. 16-17. Both directions of I-17 will be reduced to one lane between SR 74 and Loop 303 each night from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Wednesday and Thursday.

Several ramps, including the northbound I-17 off- and on-ramps at Jomax Road and the southbound ramps at Loop 303, will also be closed.

This pavement improvement project includes removing older asphalt and diamond grinding the concrete base, providing a smoother and longer-lasting surface across six miles of I-17.

ADOT advises drivers to plan for delays and allow extra travel time. Schedules are subject to change due to weather and other unforeseen factors.
