Art show honors Homer artist’s late wife
Art galleries across Homer feature artists as part of its First Friday offerings. This month, Homer Council on the Arts is hosting a show from Leo Vait. The HCOA gallery hosts various exhibits and shows throughout the year, from paintings and ceramics to jam sessions and theater performances. This month, the gallery is filled with paintings, carvings and sculptures.

Anchorage Man Found Floating In Kenai River Dies
An Anchorage man who was found floating in the Kenai River on Monday has died in Anchorage despite lifesaving efforts. Alaska Wildlife Troopers were notified shortly before 12:30 on Monday, July 22, that an adult male had been spotted floating in the Kenai River near the Bings Landing area. A response team of Alaska State Troopers, Alaska State Park Rangers, and Emergency Medical Services quickly responded to the area.

35 charged with homicide or murder released on bail as low as $0 in Anchorage
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - There are 35 people who have been released on bail in Anchorage who have been charged or indicted for homicide or murder. Crimes range from a man accused of shooting a young woman in the back of the head at near point-blank range, to first and second-degree murders, vehicular homicide, intentional manslaughter and a variety of shootings.
An Anchorage secondhand store is closing to the public to serve foster families
A statewide nonprofit announced this month that its Anchorage boutique will close to the general public in August. Beacon Hill provides support and resources for youth and families who are at risk of entering foster care, or are already in the system. The group’s store, called Beacon Hill Bargain Boutique, sells secondhand clothes, furniture and toys for low prices.
