The Broward Sheriff's Office (BSO) Traffic Homicide Unit is investigating a three-car collision that occurred on Sunday, August 11, 2024, resulting in two fatalities and leaving a third person in critical condition.

At approximately 3:57 p.m., BSO deputies responded to the scene at the intersection of Northwest 27th Avenue and Northwest Sixth Street in unincorporated Central Broward near Fort Lauderdale.

According to preliminary reports, a 2023 Tesla Model 3, driven by 19-year-old Gavin Dorvil of Lauderdale Lakes, was traveling westbound on Northwest Sixth Street at a high rate of speed. At the same time, a 2023 Dodge Durango was heading southbound on Northwest 27th Avenue.

The Tesla collided with the driver's side of the Durango in a T-bone style impact, redirecting both vehicles in a southwestern direction. The force of the collision caused the Durango to strike a 2024 Chevrolet Trax that was stopped at the intersection, traveling eastbound on Northwest Sixth Street. The Trax rolled over onto its roof, coming to rest in the eastbound lanes of Northwest Sixth Street. The Tesla and Durango continued southwest, crashing through a chain link fence surrounding a nearby cemetery, where they finally came to rest.

Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue quickly transported all five individuals involved in the crash to Broward Health Medical Center. Unfortunately, the driver and a passenger of the Durango were pronounced deceased upon arrival at the hospital. A second passenger in the Durango remains in critical condition.

Detectives have indicated that excessive speed is likely a contributing factor in the crash, though impairment is not suspected at this time. The investigation is ongoing, and more details will be released as they become available.
