The Dixie County Sheriff’s Office has issued a scam alert after multiple residents reported receiving fraudulent phone calls from individuals impersonating Sheriff Darby Butler or representatives from the Sheriff’s Office. The scammers falsely claimed that a warrant had been issued for the victims' arrests and demanded money to "clear up" the alleged warrants.

In a public statement posted on the department's social media yesterday, Sheriff Darby Butler emphasized that the Sheriff's Office does not handle warrants via phone calls or financial transactions. "If you have a warrant, we will not call you," Sheriff Butler said, humorously adding, "We'll just show up and give you a free ride to the Dixie County Jail."

Authorities urge residents to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious calls to local law enforcement.
