Sierra Stain LLC is recalling three of its water-based tattoo pigments due to contamination with high concentrations of microorganisms, posing a significant health risk to consumers. The recall, announced on August 23, 2024, affects products distributed nationwide, including Florida.

The recalled pigments, sold under the brand name Bloodline, were found to contain harmful microorganisms that could lead to infections. These infections may cause rashes or lesions at the tattoo site, and in severe cases, permanent scarring. The microorganisms identified include Citrobacter braakii, Pseudomonas fluorescens, and Curtobacterium citreum/pusillum, among others.

    Details of the Recalled Products:

    • Bloodline 1/2oz/15mL CAROLINA BLUE: Batch #1 Lot BL23, manufactured on 07/01/23, expiring on 07/01/26.
    • Bloodline 1oz/30mL ALL PURPOSE BLACK: Batch #1 Lot BL23, manufactured on 07/01/23, expiring on 07/01/26.
    • Bloodline 1/2oz/15mL UV CHINA PINK: Batch #1 Lot SC23, manufactured on 06/23, expiring on 06/26.

These products, packaged in black screw-top PET bottles, were distributed to all 50 states through Amazon.

No illnesses have been reported thus far. However, Sierra Stain LLC, based in Carson City, Nevada, has ceased operations and is no longer manufacturing tattoo ink products. Consumers and tattoo artists are advised to avoid using or selling the recalled inks and to dispose of them in a sharps or biohazard container.

Tattoo artists are urged to work in professional environments to minimize the risk of contamination. Consumers who have experienced adverse reactions should report them to MedWatch, the FDA’s safety information and adverse event reporting program.

For additional information, consumers can visit www.fda.gov/fcic or contact Sierra Stain LLC at sierrastain@gmail.com.
