The Polk County Sheriff's Office is offering a Free Basic Self-Defense and Personal Safety class for women on Saturday, September 7th, from 10:00 a.m. to Noon. This class, hosted by the PCSO Crime Prevention Unit, is designed to empower women with essential self-defense techniques and safety tips that could be life-saving in dangerous situations.

The class will take place at the PCSO Sheriff's Operations Center located at 1891 Jim Keene Blvd, near Winter Haven, and is open to women aged 13 and older. Those under 18 must have a parent present to sign a waiver at the start of the class.

Each session includes a brief 15-minute lecture followed by hands-on training where participants will practice techniques on a Body Opponent Bag (B.O.B.), provided by the Sheriff's Office. The class will run for approximately one hour, with additional time if attendance exceeds 30 participants.

This is a valuable opportunity for women to gain knowledge and skills that promote safety and confidence in unpredictable situations. Spaces are still available, and interested participants are encouraged to RSVP by emailing crimeprevention@polksheriff.org, including their name and phone number.
