Florida Declares National Truck Driver Appreciation Week

This week, Florida is recognizing the vital contributions of truck drivers to the state and national economy as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Jimmy Patronis officially proclaimed September 15-21, 2024, as National Truck Driver Appreciation Week. The event highlights the significant role truckers play in keeping Florida’s economy moving, with over 453,000 Floridians employed in the trucking industry.

Patronis emphasized the critical impact truck drivers have on the state's fiscal health, noting their role in ensuring businesses and consumers receive the goods they need to thrive. Florida is home to 125,950 trucking companies, with the industry transporting more than 95% of manufactured tonnage and contributing over $1.5 billion in roadway taxes.

Alix Miller, President and CEO of the Florida Trucking Association (FTA), praised the state’s truckers for their round-the-clock dedication, particularly in times of crisis, ensuring the availability of essential resources.

This proclamation is part of a broader recognition of Florida’s truckers, who support the state’s economy by transporting food, fuel, and goods to communities across the state, 85% of which rely solely on trucks for their supply chain needs.

As Florida celebrates National Truck Driver Appreciation Week, residents are encouraged to thank a truck driver and drive safely around large trucks.
