Week 5 High School Volleyball; First Playoff Predictor of the Season
Several streaks continued through the week. Calvary took the week off last week but continued their 5 game streak with wins over Loyola. Red River had a four-game run-rolling streak until Southwood took them 5 sets. Doyline started their first winning streak with back-to-back wins over Magnolia and BTW.
North Louisiana LHSAA High School Football Week 4 (2A-1A)
Coming out of Week 4, two remain undefeated: Haynesville and Lakeside. Lakeside is having their best start since 2005. Calvary broke the two game slide with a district win over D’Arbonne Woods. Homer also broke their streak with a win over North Webster. Arcadia and Ringgold had a mix up with referees and had to push their game to Saturday.
Red River and Many Has Hot Week in Volleyball; Doyline Get First Win In History
The fourth week of volleyball saw Red River took a strong week finishing 3-0 for the week taking wins over Woodlawn, Doyline, and Evangel. Many also had a good week going 2-0 with wins over St. Mary’s and Pineville. Doyline Lady Panthers avenged an earlier season loss to claim their first win in volleyball history with a sweep of the Wossman Wildcats. Calvary had a much needed restful week but will be back in action the next week. District races will start to heat up as we head into the last month of the regular season.
North Louisiana College Soccer Has Successful Week; Mens’ Teams Perfect For Week
The soccer week saw a lot of success in North Louisiana as LSUS, LSUA, Centenary, Northwestern State, and LCU all finished with perfect records for the week in women’s soccer. ULM split their Sun Belt matches falling to Old Dominion and getting a tie with Louisiana. Louisiana Tech is looking forward to September end as they have not scored a goal since September 1. Top performers came Micaela Nunes from LSU-Alexandria netted 4 goals last week. A three-way tie on assists came from Maria Alonso (LCU), Alexia Bermejo Jo (LSUA), and Nunes all with 4. LCU Wildcat Emma Monnet fired off 12 shots for the week. LSUS Lady Pilot Diana Godines led shots on goal with 5. Grambling’s Madison Covey Taylor stayed busy in the net with 7 saves.
High School Volleyball Week 2 & 3
Here’s a catch-up article for past two weeks in the Division IV and Division V matchups. Calvary (13-5) had 13 matches and finished 10-3 over the past two weeks. They headed to South Louisiana to Dutchtown tournament and split 2-2 while heading east to Ruston and finishing 3-2.
ULM and Louisiana Tech Sneak In One More Invitational and Other North Louisiana College Volleyball Action
LCU (10-6, 4-0) remained undefeated with a sweep of Texas College in the Red River Conference. The Lady Wildcats are close to passing last season's 15-9 record which was the best record in their overall eight seasons.
North Louisiana 2A and A High School Football Report - Week 3
The third week of the high school football season saw some big wins for North Caddo and Logansport who both got wins over District 1-4A. Haynesville took the Claiborne Parish title this year as they beat Homer 27-12. The only possibility of a 2024 second chance for the Pels could be the playoffs as both compete in Division IV nonselect. Homer moved up to 2A this season.

For Week 4, History was made for Centenary this week. Grambling opened SWAC play with a win over I-20 rival Jackson State. LCU grabbed their first win of the season in a big way over Langston College.

LCU Wildcats Open Red River Conference Play / Louisiana Tech Hosts Battle For The Boot
Louisiana Tech hosted the Battle of the Boot tournament at the Thomas Assembly Center. The local tournament hosted Southeastern Louisiana Lions, Northwestern State Demons, and Southern Jaguars. Southeastern (6-4) took both matches against Louisiana Tech and Southern. Louisiana Tech (5-5) won two out of three with wins over Southern (1-10) and Northwestern St. The Demons (5-4) took a win over Southern.
NSU Demons Soccer on A Roll/Other North Louisiana College Soccer
The NSU Lady Demons’ tough starting road with Big 5 conference opponents has paid off. NSU have gone 4-0-1 in their last five matches including four consecutive wins. The Lady Demons won over Tarleton State and Mississippi Valley State over the past week. The LSUS Lady Pilots also took their only match for a win.
Tough Week 3 For North Louisiana College Football
North Louisiana took a bump on the head over the last weekend with Grambling State (2-1) getting the only win of the weekend with an overtime victory over the Southland Conference Texas A&M-Commerce Lions (0-3). The Tigers had to score with a little over a minute left to send the game into overtime. Tre Bradford scored on the 3-yard run in OT to give Grambling the lead. The second play in OT for TAMUC saw Patrick Marshall clinch the win.
North Louisiana High School Football Week 2
Hurricane Francine caused some havoc in Week 2. Calvary was initially supposed to face Westgate. Neville also had their game canceled. So the two powerhouse teams took the opportunity to challenge each other in Shreveport and added a classic at the end. After this week, only three teams remained undefeated, Haynesville, Winnfield, and Lakeside.
High School Volleyball Week 1
The first week of volleyball season kicked off last week and we saw two of the three new teams in Division IV and V play their first matches. The two faced each other as their first match. Providence won 3-0 over the Lincoln Prep Lady Panthers. Doyline will open their season next week against Wossman. When you look at Division V District 1, four of the five teams will have no more than two years of experience. Downsville began volleyball in 2022.
Hendrix Let’s It Fly Against Centenary
The Hendrix Warriors spoiled the opening home game against the Centenary Gents. Hendrix piled on 401 yards offense to the Gents 290. Centenary quarterback Kody Fuentes went 30 for 46 tossing 299 yards and a touchdown and an interception. Fuentes top target was Kobe Chambers with 9 receptions and a touchdown. Jay Richardson scored the lone receiving touchdown. The rushing offense for Centenary had minus-9 yards mainly from 5 sacks on Fuentes. Bobby Shanklin Jr and Fuentes added rushing touchdowns for the Gents. On defense, Vance Feurerbacher collected 9 solo tackles including 2 tackles for loss and a forced fumble. Jacob Wilson grabbed two interceptions.
Prairie View A & M Edge Out Northwestern State
The Northwestern State Demons (0-2) suffered a heartbreaking loss on their opening home game of the season against the Prairie View A&M Panthers (1-1) on Saturday night. The Panthers accumulated 464 offensive yards to the Demons 275. The Demons defense also turned two interceptions into 12 points. Northwestern also struggled on the third down conversion going 2 for 13.
UAB and Tuskegee University Come Up Short in Week 2
The Warhawks moved to 2-0 after a home win over the Blazers. ULM relied on defense and special teams to put 20 points on the board. Max Larson had 12 of those points with three field goals and extra points. Car’lin Vigers had a pick-6. Billy Pullen gave the defense a safety. Ahmad Hardy and Hunter Herring gave the Warhawks offense some offensive touchdowns. The Warhawks defense forced three turnovers.

No. 12 St. Thomas (Florida) 56, No. 22 Louisiana Christian University 10. The Wildcats (0-1) dropped their first game against No. 12 St. Thomas (Florida) Bobcats (1-0). St. Thomas pounced fast and had a strong first half which LCU struggled to overcome.

Busy Labor Day Weekend of College Soccer
Labor Day weekend was not a restful time for local college teams as there was plenty of action on the pitch. Centenary began their season on Friday afternoon. The ULM Lady Warhawks continued to roll to a 6-0 record. Tech made it two in a row. LCU men played a ranked team to a tie.
