    Local Volleyball Teams Travel Cross Country For Tournaments

    If you wanted to find local college volleyball teams, you would have had a lot of plane tickets. Louisiana Tech was in California. Grambling and ULM werein Alabama. Northwestern State was in Mississippi. Centenary hosted the Country Cajun Classic in Shreveport which LCU joined in the party. Lots of spikes, blocks, and digs over the weekend.

    San Jose State 3, Louisiana Tech 0 (25-14, 25-17, 25-15) (Friday)

    Louisiana Tech (2-1) Volleyball opened the season in Fullerton, California at Cal State-Fullerton Invitational. Tech fell in the first match on Friday night against San Jose State Trojans. Giulia Bonafacio led the Bulldogs with 9 kills. Alex Singleton and Izabely Benjamin each had an ace. Charlize Williams had a solo block while Grace Luevanos and Anaya Hairston had a block assists each. Mckenzie Johnson kept the action rolling with 10 digs

    Louisiana Tech 3, Cal-State Fullerton 1 (22-25, 25-23, 25-22, 25-22) (Friday)

    The Bulldogs bounced back in a highly contest evening match against the host Titans. Giulia Bonafacio had the top kills once again with 14 kills. Rori Gray also had double digit kills with 11. McKenzie Williams serving delivered 4 aces and on defense had 10 digs. Meghan Scharpenberg helped out with 19 assists. Grace Krohn was right behind Scharpenberger with 18 assists.

    Louisiana Tech 3, Cal-State Fullerton 0 (25-18, 26-24, 25-17)

    After a barn burner match on Friday night, the Bulldogs and Titans brought a sequel on Saturday morning. The Bulldogs needed some extra points to take the second set but they gained their first sweep of the season. Bonafacio once again had double digit kills with 11. McKenzie Johnson led the Bulldogs with 3 aces and 20 digs. Meghan Scharpenberg gave the Bulldogs 13 assists. Charlize Williams had 2 solo blocks along with 4 block assists. Rori Gray also defended the net with 2 solo blocks and 2 block assists.

    Alabama State 3, ULM 1 (25-20, 18-25, 28-26, 25-23)

    ULM (1-2) gave the host Hornets a run for the match win as the Warkhawks took the second set, the Hornets needed extra points in the third set, and Alabama State won by 2 points. Ariana Brown gave the Warhawks 14 kills and 5 aces. Kalli Walker also had double digit kills with 10 and added 2 aces also. Morgan Howard propped up ULM with 19 assists and Kailey Friedrich added another 17. On defense, Lydia Mesusan and Ryley Boyne each had 2 block assists. Cameron Rogers hit the court for 20 digs. Walker also had 16 digs.

    Nicholls State 3, ULM 0 (25-15, 25-22, 25-23)

    Friday night was not the night for ULM on close matches. After Nicholls made a statement in the first set, ULM stayed with 3 points but came up close in the second in third set. Ariana Brown slammed 14 kills for the Warhawks. Morgan Howard gave ULM 23 assists. Camren Kimes led the Warhawks with 2 aces. On defense, Kenzie Behl led ULM with 2 block assists and Cameron Rogers kept the action going with 12 digs. Kimes also had double-digit digs with 10.

    ULM 3, South Carolina State 0 (25-13, 25-17, 25-23)

    The new day in Saturday brought ULM their first win of the season. The Warhawks swept the Bulldogs in their final match at the Alabama State Invitational in Montgomery, Alabama. Brown for the third consecutive match led ULM with 12 kills. Morgan Howard gave the Warhawks 2 aces and compiled 35 assists. Cameron Rogers had 19 digs and she had help from Brown with 12 additional digs.

    Southern Miss 3, NSU 1 (25-20, 15-25, 25-15, 25-21)

    NSU (2-1) started the season in Hattiesburg, Mississippi at the Southern Miss Invitational. The Lady Demons fell to the host team on Friday night. Rhegan Thompson led NSU had 12 kills and 4 aces. Amina Attra and Gabby Seeds each had double-digit assists with 17 and 11, respectively. On defense, Deja Benjamin had a solo block and four block assists. Ashlyn Svoboda and Thompson each had 15 digs while Attra and Teresa Garza had 13 digs each.

    NSU 3, Southern 1 (25-17, 25-17, 22-25, 25-23)

    Northwestern State bounced back with their first win of the season on Friday night against the Southern Jaguars.

    Rhegan Thompson led the Lady Demons with 21 kills and also had 11 digs on defense. Teresa Garza had 14 kills and led on aces with 2. Garza also had 14 digs on defense. Amina Attra collected 21 assists. Gabby Seeds also had double-digit assists with 19. Deja Benjamin protected the net with 2 solo blocks and 7 assists. Samaya Wesson also was strong at the net with 2 solo blocks and 2 assisted blocks. Thompson also had 1 solo block and 4 block assists. Hunter McFarland also had a 1 solo block and 2 block assists.

    NSU 3, Jacksonville State 1 (15-25, 25-21, 25-21, 26-24)

    NSU finished the Southern Miss Invitation with a win over Jacksonville State on Saturday afternoon. Teresa Garza gave the Demons 17 kills in the 4-set match. Amina Attra and Gabby Seeds propped up NSU to the win with 18 and 16 assists, respectively. Deja Benjamin’s serving provides the Demons with 4 aces. Samaya Wesson brought the defense at the net with a solo block and 5 block assists. Ashlyn Svoboda and Garza each had 14 digs. Thompson added another 13 digs.

    The Grambling Tigers (0-3) gave the SEC hosts team a scare actually taking a 2-1 lead within the match. Essence Allen gave the Tigers 21 kills. Ra’Niya Brown took 3 aces in the match. Ana Zink led Grambling 16 assists. Letica Correa also had double digit assists with 14. On defense, Kai Williams had 4 block assists. Mil’lanni Marte and Lauryn Bourne each had double-digit digs with 14 and 13, respectively.

    UT Martin 3, Grambling 1 (20-25, 25-17, 25-23, 25-18)

    The Lady Tigers opened with a win but lost the next three sets to fall to 0-2 against. Madison Reagins gave Grambling 11 kills. Ana Zink led the Tigers in both aces (2) and assists (16). Leticia Corea also had 2 aces and 11 assists. Madison Reagins also struck on defense with a solo and two block assists. Ra’Niya Brown was strong at the net with five block assists. Alyssa Pieh and Mil’lani Marte each had 11 digs.

    The Citadel 3, Grambling 0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-11)

    The Lady Tigers ended the Alabama Invitational with a loss to The Citadel on Saturday morning. Kai Williams, Ra’Niya Brown, and Madison Reagins each hgave the Tigers 4 kills. Leticia Correa had picked up 7 assists. Essence Allen led Grambling with 3 aces. On defense, Kenya Sykes and Reagins each had 3 block assists. Allen topped digs with 10.

    Howard Payne 3, Centenary 0 (25-16, 25-14, 25-19)

    Centenary (0-3) hosted the Country Cajun Classic at thr Gold Dome. Alyssa Gatlin led the Ladies with 7 kills and 2 aces. Daly Nagot also had 2 aces. Kristi Hinze propped up Centebary with 12 assists. On defense, Bailee Henderson added 2 block assists. Hinze was also the top of digs with 8.

    Millsaps 3, Centenary 0 (25-14, 25-20, 25-13)

    The Ladies dropped their last match to Millsaps on Saturday afternoon. Bailee Henderson gave Centenary 9 kills and led on defense with 3 solo blocks. Kristi Hinze once again led in assists with 21. Hinze along with Henderson, Alyssa Gatlin, Grayson Shugart, and Yadneli Molina each had one ace. Freshman Charlie Wedding kept the action rolling with 15 digs.

    LCU 3, Centenary 0 (25-15, 25-9, 25-9)

    The Lady Wildcats (5-5) headed to Shreveport on Friday to face the host team Ladies in the night game at the Gold Dome. Abby Revell led the Wildcats with 13 kills. Jessica Smith served 5 aces for LCU. Emma Cother once again had a 20-plus assists match with 29. Kate Campbell led defense with 2 blocks (1 solo, 1 assist). Leah Stamps dove for 18 digs while Katie Spell added another 11.

    Centenary in its opening match of the season Jacie Bagley gave the Ladies 4 kills. Kristi Hinze added 9 assists. Meadow Smith served 2 aces. Defense was led by Bailee Hendersonhad two solo assists. Daly Nagot led with 9 digs.

    The Wildcats took the first set but the Yellow Jackets captured the last three sets. Kierra Jones captures 8 kills. Madison Danley served up 3 aces. Emma Cother took 25 assists. Abby Revel kept the net protected with 2 solo blocks and a block assist. Three Wildcats had double digit digs with Leah Stamps leading with 22 and Katie Spell and Cother each having 11.

    The Wildcats took the fight to the Majors going thr full five sets. Katie Campbell and Megan O’Neal each gave the Wildcats 12 kills. Emma Cother compiled a massive 41 assists in the five set match. Cother, O’Neal, and Angelina Medrano each had two aces. Mallory Wills defense pulled 2 solo blocks and 2 block assists. Leah Stamps hit the floor on 28 digs. Cother added another 14 digs.
