    Hendrix Let’s It Fly Against Centenary

    The Hendrix Warriors spoiled the opening home game against the Centenary Gents. Hendrix piled on 401 yards offense to the Gents 290.

    Centenary quarterback Kody Fuentes went 30 for 46 tossing 299 yards and a touchdown and an interception. Fuentes top target was Kobe Chambers with 9 receptions and a touchdown. Jay Richardson scored the lone receiving touchdown. The rushing offense for Centenary had minus-9 yards mainly from 5 sacks on Fuentes. Bobby Shanklin Jr and Fuentes added rushing touchdowns for the Gents. On defense, Vance Feurerbacher collected 9 solo tackles including 2 tackles for loss and a forced fumble. Jacob Wilson grabbed two interceptions.

    Hendrix quarterback Jacob Buniff went 21 for 27 for 192 yards and four touchdowns. The Warriors top receiver was Parker Turley with 5 reception for 88 yards and teo touchdowns. Jax Johnson also had two receiving touchdowns. Jason Sullivan was the top rusher with 11 carries for 47 yards and two touchdowns. Tristan Johnson terrorized the Gents with 9 tackles including two sacks and four tackles for loss. Jayvion Coulter snagged an interception.

    Hendrix Bunnif showed his passing skills as he hit Berry for 30 yards inside Gents territory. The Warriors wasted no time to get inside the red zone on a 15 yard pass from Buniff to Kanyn Utley. Buniff took the quarterback keeper 13 yards to the Centenary 4. Jason Sullivan finished the drive on a 4 yard run ti give Hendrix the 8-0 lead. Hendrix started their second drive on the Centenary side of the field. The Warriors reached the Centenary 14 on an 18-yard pass from Bunniff to Jax Johnson. Johnson got the call again and this time all the way to the end zone. Hendrix had compiled a 15-0 lead with a little under 7 minutes remaining in the first quarter. Centenary was three and out on their next drive and their punt was blocked by Dylan Dount as Hendrix took over at midfield. Centenary caught a break as Jax Johnson fumbled the ball on a 46-yard loss to the Hendrix 4 where Fueherbacher recoved the ball. Bobby Shanklin carried the ball to the end zone for Centenary first score of the season and cut the lead to 15-6. Hendrix pushed to inside the Centenary 10 on the last play of the first quarter.

    The Warrior combo of Bunniff and Johnson scored on the first play of the second quarter on a 9-yard touchdown pass. Hendrix extended their lead to 22-6. Centenary pinned the Warrior back at their own 5 on the next drive. Bunniff’s short pass game gave them some breathing room. Bunniff found Bruce on a 17-yard pass to get their 40. Centenary forced a fumble on Bunniff which the quarterback recovered at the 29. Bunniff tried the reliable Johnson and reaxhed midfield again. The quarterback keeper cracked the Centenary territory. Johnson did more damage to Centenary with a 25-yard reception to the Centenary 8. Berry caught an 8-yard pass for the touchdown and gave the Warriors a 29-6 lead. Centenary lost possesion on the next drive as Javyvion Coulter intercepted and ran back to the Centenary 40. Bunniff wasted no time again as he sent a 24-yard pass to Utley and reach inside the 10 again. Jason Sullivan took his opportunity to cross the goalline on the 6-yard run. Hendrix led 36-6 at halftime.

    Centenary had to punt on their first possession of the second half. The Gent looked to have them pinned at midfield but a personal foul supplied a fresh set of downs and another trip on the Centenary side of the field. Buniff struck on a 29-yard touchdown pass to Berry. Hendrix expanded the lead to 43-6. After another Centenary punt, Hendrix looked to build on their lead but Jacob Wilson took another interception at the Centenary 25. Centenary took short plays midfield. Fuentes completed a 15-yard pass to Isaiah King to reach the Hendrix side of the field. Another 19-yard pass by Fuentes to Devin Ardoin sent the Gents to the Hendrix 28. The Warrior defense kicked in and stopped the momentum. Hendrix caused two sacks by Tristan Johnson and McKay Young and forced a turnover on downs. Hendrix exited the third quarter with a 43-6 lead.

    The two teams swapped punts in the fourth quarter.. Centenary’s Jacob Wilson caught another interception at the Henderson 25. Fuentes took a 10-yard pass to Butler to enter the red zone. Fuentes completed a 15-yard touchdown pass to Jay Richardson. Centenary closed the gap to 43-14. Centenary defense sparked another late possession as Wright fumbled the run on fourth down. Hendrix recovered but on a loss for yards and turnover on downs. Fuentes passed to Chambers on a 11-yard completion and into Hendrix territory. Another Fuentes to Chambers 18-yard completion to the Hendrix 25. Chambers took a third reception inside the 20. Fuentes took one more pass to the Hendrix 1. Fuentes finished the drive to the end zone and closed the scoring at 43-20.
