BRISTOL — The annual outhouse race amidst Bristol’s July 4 festivities never disappoints. Twelve teams of three contestants each showed up ready to roll on West Street this past Thursday morning. The aim for all was an agile advancement to the finish line. The winners of each trial heat proceeded to the final round, with trophies awaiting teams that are either the fastest or the prettiest.
Which Vermont State Parks are closed due to flooding?
Many state parks in northern Vermont are closed after flood waters damaged and washed-out access roads on July 10 and 11, according to a Vermont State Parks blog post. The flooding – which has so far claimed two lives and resulted in over 100 rescues – has shut down the following state parks until further notice:
Car found in offshore waters at Leddy Beach
BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - A car was found in the water at Leddy Beach early this morning. According to Burlington Police, the car was stolen out of Milton. Police say it was then intentionally driven into the water. When officers and fire crews arrived around 1:30 a.m. they found no one was inside the car.

St. Johnsbury man arrested after alleged Berlin Mall theft
BERLIN, Vt. (WCAX) - A St. Johnsbury man is behind bars after police say he stole a shopping cart full of items in Berlin. Police say on Friday at the Kohl’s in the Berlin Mall, 39-year-old Dylan Chase ran from Kohl’s with a shopping cart full of stolen items, causing cars to swerve around him on Fisher Road.

One restaurant to close, another to make its debut in Chittenden County by week's end
Chittenden County will lose one restaurant but gain another by the end of this weekend. Heart N’ Soul by Mark BBQ, which moved to Market Street in South Burlington after closing its operation in Colchester late last year, will shut down “after this week,” according to a July 9 social-media post by owner Darrell Langworthy. He attributed the reason for the closure to health issues, including a recent knee injury and “the beginnings of diastolic heart failure,” which he termed “somewhat correctable with some major life changes that I need to start right away.”
