New Washougal event promises ‘weirdest, strangest car show’
When people ask AJ Bogue about the types of vehicles that he’s hoping to show off at the upcoming car show that he’s organizing, he usually tells them something like this: “If you can drive it to 54-40 Brewing Company and pay the $25 entry fee, it’s in.”

No, Really: Why Don’t Private Parking Lots Tow Trespassing Cars Right Away?
You’re wrong: City code absolutely allows private property owners to tow trespassing cars immediately—Hungry Tiger & Retriever Towing did it to me in 2008. Moreover, since private lots can’t hunt you down like the government can, holding your car for ransom is their best chance of getting paid. So my question stands: Why don’t private lots tow right away rather than writing fake “tickets”? —Welcome to Portlandistan.

PORTLAND, Oregon — Darcelle XV. The name alone evokes a kind of immortal Portland lore. Though the legendary drag queen herself has been gone now for more than a year, the drag venue that bears her name is still in business. "This was his heart and soul. This is...
A rare breed: Portland author Willy Vlautin talks about his new novel, ‘The Horse’
In the work of Willy Vlautin, whose books are written in crisp, spare language, a phrase like “butterscotch-blonde” stands out. In most novels, that phrase would describe a femme fatale, a plot complication, a diversion leading the protagonist into murky waters. In Vlautin’s novel The Horse, which comes out July 30, it describes a Fender Telecaster guitar given to protagonist Al Ward when he was a 14-year-old aspiring musician.

They’re here every summer to catch lamprey the same way Indigenous people of the Pacific Northwest have caught them for millennia.

Podcast: In the Shed #24 with Portland Mercury Reporter Taylor Griggs
I know it’s late, but I didn’t have time to get this one finished before I left The Shed around 2 today, so here it is!. It was so fun having Taylor Griggs back in the shed. Remember Taylor? She wrote for BikePortland from late 2021 to May of last year and then the Portland Mercury scooped her up. I only have a few minutes, so I’ll cut to the chase (and won’t capitalize)…
