Hay yield and quality varies across the Upper Great Plains
Rain has been a blessing for some hay producers and a curse for others in Nebraska and the Dakotas. According to University of Nebraska-Lincoln professor of agronomy and horticulture Jerry Volesky, yield for grass and alfalfa hay has been relatively high this year in central and eastern Nebraska, an area that has had much-needed rain after a long period of drought. Areas in the Nebraska Panhandle have seen comparatively lower hay yields due to not as much rain.

The Great Plains Zoo and Butterfly House & Aquarium in Sioux Falls are truly jewels in our city. They are leaders in education, conservation, and family entertainment. The doors to discovery at the Great Plains Zoo are open 7 days a week from 9 AM to 5 PM and on Wild Wednesdays from 9 AM to 7 PM.
32,820 Blizzards for 2024 Miracle Treat Day
32,820 blizzards were sold this year in Madison, for the 19th Annual Children’s Miracle Treat Day. As in years past, the event at the Dairy Queen in Madison included a full day of fun and games, and raised money for the Children’s Miracle Network. In addition to the proceeds from every blizzard sold going to CMN, two local families added special donations. The Kevin and Lauri Minnaert family donated one dollar to CMN for every blizzard sold from 12-to-1pm Thursday. The Gitzen family in Madison also did a match from 5-6pm.
