The Union City Police Department said they received reports of a stolen car just past 8:15 a.m.

Police responded to an area by Tamarack Drive and Mission Boulevard to locate the suspect. Upon arriving at the scene, police said the suspect had already driven away with the stolen car.

While fleeing, the driver crashed with the outside of a Union City business, police said. UCPD said tables and chairs outside the business were damaged, and no pedestrians were struck.

Shortly after, UCPD said the car continued driving onto Tamarack Drive before it collided with a University of California transit bus.

After the collision with the UC transit bus, a police officer located the suspect approaching an intersection. Police said the car thief suspect drove in the opposite direction upon noticing the police officer approaching them.

As the suspect was driving westbound on Decoto Road, police said the car collided with a second car, which hit another car– causing a three-way collision.

UCPD said passengers inside one of the cars involved in the crash were hospitalized and are expected to survive. Police said the suspect who allegedly stole the car was arrested “for various charges.”
