Donald Trump to make first North Carolina visit since assassination attempt
Former President Donald Trump has scheduled his first appearance in North Carolina since surviving an assassination attempt.Trump's campaign said he will hold a rally in Charlotte at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, July 24.North Carolina continues to be a hotbed in the race for the White House this year. Vice President Kamala Harris came to Fayetteville on July 18 -- in what was her seventh visit to the Tar Heel state in 2024.The state's 16 electoral votes are highly sought after in what could shape up to be a close election.The last Democrat running for president to win North Carolina was Barack Obama in his first term back in 2008. Since then the state has gone red for Mitt Romney and Donald Trump twice.However, Democrats are optimistic because Trump's margin of victory shrank from 173,315 votes against Hillary Clinton in 2016 to just 74,483 votes against Joe Biden in 2020.
NCSU settles legal disagreement with former Poe Hall student, worker
North Carolina State University and a former grad student end employee have resolved a legal dispute related to the Poe Hall shutdown, according to a court filing Friday. NCSU has asked the state Supreme Court to lift a stay in the case. That action would allow a trial judge to throw out an earlier ruling favoring Darren Masier in his legal action against the university.
UNC System announces search committee for new chancellor at NC State
UNC System president Peter Hans did not waste any time in appointing the committee that will recommend a replacement for NC State Chancellor Randy Woodson. Woodson, the longest serving chancellor in the University of North Carolina System, announced on Thursday that he will retire at the end of June of 2025 after 15 years leading the system’s largest university. Today, system president Peter Hans appointed a 13-member search advisory committee that will lead the effort to identify a new leader for the Raleigh-based institution.
North Carolina woman wins $250,000 off $5 scratch-off
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) — Rosamaria Munoz, of Biscoe, bought a $5 scratch-off and won a $250,000 top prize. Munoz bought her Power 5s ticket from Tobacco & Bev. Outlet on North Main Street in Candor. She collected her prize at lottery headquarters Friday. After required state and federal tax withholdings, she took home $178,751.
Area towns receive help with water projects
Several area towns will receive drinking water and wastewater funding after projects were approved in Tuesday’s State Water Infrastructure Authority Meeting in Raleigh.
