South Central’s Ean Behm is a 6-foot-4 senior averaging 12.6 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game for the Falcons, the Big Carolina 3A/4A Conference boys’ basketball regular-season and tournament champions.

He scored in double figures 15 times for South Central during the regular season and registered a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds against North Pitt on Dec. 26. He also plays baseball for the Falcons.

Behm spoke recently with correspondent Gabe Cornwall about his background, his career and his hopes for the future.

Q: Where did you get your love for the game of basketball?

A: Ever since I was little, I’ve always played basketball, always had a basketball in my hand. It was just me and my dad in the driveway, shooting.

Q: Your father was also a player in high school. Did he inspire your love for the game? When did you beat him? Has that happened yet?

A: Definitely, when I got to high school, I started to develop my game more. I just started getting better.

Q: Who do you model your game after, if anyone?

A: There’s not really anyone. I just try to do my own thing.

Q: How much do you enjoy stuffing the stat sheet? While there’s scoring points, you’re also out there grabbing rebounds and diving on the floor for loose balls.

A: Points is the main thing, but the biggest thing is steals, rebounds, taking charges and things that don’t show up on the stat sheet. Those are the things that win games.

Q: Do you prefer basketball or baseball?

    A: Basketball.

Q: How has this team adjusted to Coach (Leland) Jones from Coach (Chris) Cherry?

A: It has definitely been a good transition because we all know Coach Jones. He has been coaching us since we were sophomores, so it has been an easy transition.

Q: Are you looking to play at the next level?

    A: I’m not sure yet.

Q: What are the goals for the rest of the season for you and for this team?

A: To go far in the playoffs.
