UNION, NJ - Union celebrated Portuguese culture last Friday and Saturday, as the Portuguese American Civic Association (PACA) hosted its annual Portugal Day weekend festival.

The two-day affair was held at the PACA headquarters, located behind the Knights of Columbus building on Jeannette Avenue. Aromas of barbecued meats and cinnamon filled the air as attendees socialized and danced to lively music.

Among the attendees were a handful of local elected officials, who enjoyed their time amid the festivities.

"It's great to come together and celebrate the vibrant Portuguese community we have here in the Township of Union," said Committeewoman Patricia Guerra-Frazier. "We have a terrific crowd here, and my fellow committee members and I are thrilled to be here to join you."

Eventgoers could choose from a wide selection of authentic food, such as sausage, sardines, and caldo verde. Drinks included sangria, caipirinhas, and Portuguese soda.

Additionally, several live entertainment groups made an appearance. Folk bands played traditional rusga and rancho music, and attendees of all generations made their way to the dance floor.

Portugal Day is celebrated in June each year to commemorate national literary icon Luis de Camões. For more information about PACA, follow its Facebook page here .
