UNION, NJ - The Union Disabilities and Mental Health Committee held a jazz fundraiser to celebrate the 34th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act at Mambo Cuban Restaurant & Lounge on Wednesday evening.

“It is truly heartwarming to see so many of you here tonight, united by a common cause, that is a testament to the power of community, compassion, and commitment,” said Aracely Digirolamo, the chairperson for the Union Disabilities and Mental Health Committee. “While we have made significant strides, there is still much work to do to be done. Your support is the foundation upon which we build a more inclusive future. Let us continue to work together to make our vision a reality.”

The event was filled with people eating and socializing. The proceeds from the jazz event will benefit the committee, which organizes programs and activities for people with disabilities.

Deputy Mayor Joseph Florio also spoke at the event, saying “I would like to thank you for taking the time out of your schedule to unite with your friends, family, and neighbors. By purchasing a ticket for tonight's event, you are assisting our Township of Union ADA Committee on its mission to hold programs and events that benefit all community members, no matter what physical or mental limitations they may face. The programs that they hold are crucial to the community that we serve, and we could not have made tonight possible without your support.”

The Americans with Disabilities Act was signed into law on July 26, 1990, and prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities in employment, transportation, public accommodations, communications, and government programs.
