Milaca City Council reviews 2025 preliminary budget

During a special Milaca City Council meeting on Monday, Aug. 12, the council reviewed the city’s preliminary budget for 2025.

As an overview, the total budgeted expenditures for the city currently sit at $8.35 million while revenues are currently expected at $8 million, creating a deficit of just under $347,000.

However, that number is expected to change prior to the final approval of the city’s 2025 budget and levy.

Some of the factors impacting this coming year’s budget include an estimated increase in health insurance by 17%, with a final number expected in November; street projects; the purchase of two fire trucks, with one in the process of being manufactured and funds coming from the spending of reserves; improvements to City Hall for security purposes; pistol replacement and the addition of an officer for the Milaca Police Department; a new water and sewer line; new contracts and wages; and the replacement of a boiler for Public Works.

City administrators alongside the city council plan to review and revise the budget further as the deadline to approve the final budget and levy approaches in November, meaning some projects may be changed or adjusted to decrease or increase costs.

More information about the City of Milaca’s budget for 2025 will be in the Union-Times as the information changes and becomes available.
