Rural Development issues REAP grants
TOPEKA, Kan. — U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Kansas Rural Development Director Christy Davis announced Friday that USDA will help farmers and small businesses expand access to clean energy and lower energy bills through the Rural Energy for America Program (REAP). Today, Rural Development is investing $1,789,170 in grants that will support 15 clean energy projects across Kansas.
Wichita woman, teen killed in crash on Kansas Turnpike near Emporia
WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - Two people are dead and four others were injured Saturday afternoon near Emporia during a crash on the Kansas turnpike. The Emporia Fire Department says units were dispatched to mile marker 134 on the KTA on Saturday afternoon shortly after 3 p.m. for an injury accident. Upon arrival, units found a two-vehicle crash with multiple patients.
Grace United Methodist Church hosts successful Kicks 4 Kids shoe giveaway
Grace United Methodist Church held its annual Kicks 4 Kids shoe giveaway Saturday, bringing much-needed footwear and other essential services to local children. "About seven years ago, a youth group of junior high and high school students recognized a need in their schools," said organizer Russ Conrade. "Some kids couldn't participate in gym or PE because they didn't have the proper shoes, or any decent shoes at all. It started as a way to help them and has just grown from there. It’s an opportunity to reach out and share a little bit of God's love with those around us."

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - The Topeka U.S. Bank robbery suspect was located in Texas by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. According to the Topeka Police Department officials, as a result of the investigation, on Friday, July 26, officials with the FBI took a suspect into custody without incident in Texas. The incident is being investigated by the FBI and no additional information is available at this time.
