February 2023: Celebrate Valentines Day Week (and more) in University City
💓Happy Valentine’s Day. While it’s true that the month of February is a short one, it’s also filled with activities and events in University City; what a great way to meet up with neighbors and friends to celebrate our University City community and Heart Month too! Here are a few suggestions:
On the Agenda for Wed, Feb 8: CM Kent Lee will be UCCA’s special guest at 6 PM community meeting; all are welcome to attend
UCCA Community Association meets Wednesday, February 8, 6 PM, via Zoom. Our special guest will be Councilmember Kent Lee. In addition, the community will hear updates related to Pure Water construction and upcoming community events, from the police department, planning group, community, and legislative representatives including city council, county, state and federal representatives. UCCA meetings also provide a public forum at which community interests may be expressed. We are putting our February agenda together now. 🆕🚧⚠️UCCA and the Pure Water Project Team will co-host a Pure Water Construction Information Session via Zoom on Tuesday, January 31, at 6 PM. The presenters are members of the Pure Water construction project team. The Information Session will be devoted exclusively to Pure Water construction on Genesee, Nobel, Towne Center Drive, and Executive Drive from Appleton in Clairemont to the I-805 in University City.

From UCCA president Diane Ahern: It’s hard to believe that another year has come and gone and UCCA is entering it’s 21st year of supporting University City. At UCCA we’re looking forward to collaborating with friends and neighbors and our new City Councilmember Kent Lee. The Planning Department expects to complete the Community Plan Update in 2023. We’ve already had a preview of things to come with the Pure Water construction on Genesee in Clairemont; construction will start soon on Genesee in University City.
MCAS Miramar Airfield Operations Reminder – Santa Ana Winds may result in Different Departure and Arrival Procedures
During Santa Ana wind conditions, aircraft approaching MCAS Miramar airfield may approach and land from west to east; and depart from west to east. This is opposite the customary east to west approach and departure procedures. This may result in an increase in flights over the community areas surrounding the airfield. This will continue until wind conditions change.
Next Community Plan Update (CPUS) Meeting? It’s scheduled for Tues, Feb 21, 2023, at 6 p.m.
As posted on the Plan University City website, there is no Community Plan Update Subcommittee (CPUS) meeting scheduled for January. The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, February 21, at 6 PM. February 2023 – Pure Water Construction on Genesee in University City Begins in February
University City Community Association (UCCA) will co-host a Pure Water Construction Information Session on Tuesday, January 31, at 6 PM. More information to follow. From the City of San Diego: The Pure Water Pipelines and Tunnels Projects will connect the Clairemont Morena Pipelines Middle Alignment to the south with the University City North City Water Reclamation Plant (on Eastgate Mall) to the north. This project begins in Clairemont on Genesee Avenue between Appleton Street and state Route 52 and continues through University City on Genesee Avenue, Nobel Drive, Towne Centre Drive and Executive Drive. Tunneling will be completed at Genesee Avenue and SR-52, at Genesee Avenue and Rose Canyon, and under Interstate 805.

January 2023 – Pure Water Construction in the University City Area
From Public Utilities Dept: The Pure Water Pipelines and Tunnels project will connect to the Morena Pipelines Middle Alignment to the south and the North City Water Reclamation Plant to the north. This project includes portions of two 10.5-mile pipelines: one 48-inch wastewater pipeline, which will carry wastewater north to the North City facilities for purification, and one 30-inch brine line that will carry the biproduct from water purification south to the Point Loma Wastewater Treatment Plant.

Thu, Dec 29: The Front Porch Pandemic Jazz Jam continues Jamming in December and into the New Year
From Greg Pardue <gpardue@san.rr.com> and the Front Porch Pandemic Jazz Jam (FPPJJ):. The FPPJJ will jam on Thursday, December 28. The only change is, we’ll be starting around 2:00 to 2:30 and ending by sundown, around 5:00. This allows us to be jamming and you to be enjoying the jazz while it’s daytime and not too cold. As always, it’s weather permitting.
