May 2024 message from UCCA President Jemma Samala: Wow, April was a month filled with meetings every week – primarily about the plan update. One thing we, and the city, have learned is that the residents of University City pay attention to the issues that affect our neighborhood. Thanks to all who attended our UCCA meetings in person or watched online. And although the plan update comment deadline will have passed by the time you read this, thanks to all who did submit comments – let’s see what the city does with all of them.

UCCA President’s Message for April 2024 – It’s about the CPU
Hello University City, April has been jam packed with meetings…. Yes, yes…I know the month is almost over, but I did want to wait until we finished a few key meetings. The first weekend of April kicked off with an excellent “What You Need to Know” presentation by UCCA Secretary and UCPG Liaison Katie Rodolico about the University Community Plan Update released on March 14. Katie provided a well-researched and detailed discussion about the current plan proposal and what was and was not revised form the previous proposal. UC Talks One & One with D6 Councilmember Kent Lee on Monday, April 22 at 6 PM; broadcast Live to Facebook
On Monday, April 22, University City Community Association (UCCA) presents the second in a series of One & One talks – one subject or speaker for one hour. Jemma Samala, UCCA’s president, will conduct a casual interview-style session with D6 Councilmember Kent Lee. If you have a question for CM Kent Lee that you would like Jemma to include in her interview, please send it to Jemma as soon as possible (hopefully by Sunday evening) at: jemmasamala@gmail.com. There will be time for additional Q&A from the audience at the end of the interview.

From the SD Planning Department: The University Community Plan Update Subcommittee will meet on Tuesday, April 16 at 6 p.m. on Zoom. The University Community Planning Group (UCPG) will host its Executive Committee Monthly Meeting on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at 6 PM. This is a hybrid meeting with the UCPG board required to attend in-person but with the choice to participate in person or by Zoom for presenters and members of the public. From Merle Langston, Beautification Chair: We hope that our UC residents have had a chance to see our newly renovated median at Governor and Radcliffe. The old weed cover liner was removed and replaced, a slight swale was created to emulate a river bed, nine new plants were planted, new irrigation emitters were brought to new plants as well as existing plants, and more rocks were added to the existing so that the rocks go from curb to curb instead of a mulch border which decayed after a few years.

City Releases University Community Plan Update (CPU) 2024 Version and DEIR
From the UCPG (planning group) chair Chris Nielsen: The revised University Community Plan Update and Environmental Impact Report will be released on Thursday, March 14, 2024. Public comments on both the DEIR and Revised Plan Update will be due on Monday April 29. Comments from the UCPG will be due Wednesday, May 15 or Thursday, May 16.
