Planning is underway for the UC Celebration on the 4th of July at Standley Park. Many volunteers are needed to help make this annual event at Standley Park a huge success. If you and your family plan to attend, please also plan to help out. That’s the best way to ensure that your favorite activities are part of this year’s UC Celebration.
Sun Jan 28 – Celebrate Lunar New Year and the Year of the Wood Dragon at the North University Library
Lunar New Year is a festival that recognizes the beginning of the year based on a lunar and solar calendar. An important Chinese cultural holiday, it is celebrated worldwide across East Asia and Southeast Asia as well as Australia, Canada, and the United Kingdom. In the Chinese and Vietnamese astrology, there are a total of 12 zodiac animals, each one associated with an element such as metal, wood, water, fire, earth. As we move through the zodiac cycle, each animal and its affiliated element reappears after 12 years. This year, the San Diego Public Library is proud to celebrate the Year of the Wood Dragon. In University City, free wildfire preparedness home assessments will be scheduled from Monday, February 5 through Friday, February 16.*. From the SD County Fire Safe Council: The Resource Conservation District of Greater San Diego County has been awarded a CAL FIRE Defensible Space Assistance Grant through California Fire Safe Council that will allow them to bring a new pilot Home Assessment Program to residents of San Diego County in partnership with the Fire Safe Council of San Diego County and the 39 community Fire Safe Councils including the University City Fire Safe Council.

UCPG (Planning Group) issues preliminary agenda for UCPG Meeting on January 9, 2024
The University Community Planning Group (UCPG) will host its Executive Committee Monthly Meeting in a hybrid format (in-person with Zoom option) on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at 6 PM. The in-person location is at 9880 Campus Pointe Drive, Third Floor, Terra Nova Conference Room. The Zoom instructions for the online meeting are on page three (3) of the agenda and at the end of this post. This is a hybrid meeting with the UCPG board required to attend in-person but with the choice to participate in-person or by Zoom for presenters and members of the public.
