Millions of Dollars Flowing to San Diego to Fight Opioid Abuse; including Funds for Education, Treatment and Prevention of Addiction
From the Office of City Attorney Mara W. Elliott: This one is about the settlement of a huge case our office (and others) brought against the manufacturers and distributors of legal opioids, which have caused so much addiction and death here and elsewhere over the last couple of decades. San Diego is just beginning to receive payments which will be used going forward for education, treatment and prevention of addiction. The City will receive an estimated $30 million over eight years.

The San Diego Police Department has identified a property crime series occurring throughout the county, including the University City community. Northern Division Detectives are currently working to identify and arrest the suspects related to this series. The San Diego Police Department wants to provide information and education to the public regarding these suspects and recommend ways to improve your home security to protect yourself.

November 2022: Pure Water Construction Continues in University City Area
Designated as the “Morena Northern Pipelines and Tunnels” on the Pure Water University City website, this project includes portions of two 10.5-mile pipelines: one 48-inch wastewater pipeline, which will carry wastewater north to the North City facilities for purification, and one 30-inch brine line that will carry the biproduct from water purification south to the Point Loma Wastewater Treatment Plant.
