On Harry Whitaker’s Black Renaissance
On January 15, 1976—what would have been Martin Luther King Jr.’s 47th birthday—the pianist Harry Whitaker assembled a group of musicians at Sound Ideas Studio on West 46th Street in Manhattan to record what would eventually be released as Black Renaissance – Body, Mind And Spirit. Whitaker had gained experience playing piano in Roy Ayers’ band and as musical director for Roberta Flack for most of the 1970s, but this session was an opportunity for Whitaker to see his specific musical vision become reality . . .

Paisans Pizzeria has impressive grand opening in Oak Lawn
The origins of Paisans Pizzeria were humble as immigrant Luigi Fejzuloski created the business in a small corner store in Cicero. He was making pizzas in 1985 out of a household kitchen. Soon after that, Luigi was joined by his son, Pete. They both responded to orders one at a time using hand-written tickets hanging from clothespins in their tiny kitchen.
Palos Park teen violinist invited to perform at Ravinia Festival
A Palos Park teenager who is a member of the Suburban Youth Symphony Orchestra has been invited to perform at next week’s prestigious Ravinia Festival. Violinist, Mariah Saban Rice, 13, of Palos Park, is one of three south suburban musicians invited to attend and perform at the National Seminario Ravinia at Ravinia Festival in Highland Park on Wednesday, July 10.
